“Imagine sitting in front of a fireplace, a delicious drink in your hands, feet in epically thick socks, and you’re reflecting on the reasons why the world is sometimes a great and beautiful place – that’s what it can be like listening to Scott Ritcher’s songs.” – Faculty of Fine Arts, Brno
From Scott: Twenty years ago, I released my first solo record. It was just me with an acoustic guitar in a Kansas City studio, playing some covers and some songs from my band.
Since then, I have experimented with other types of music, including my Simple Orbits record, about which Metroschifter drummer Chris Reinstatler told me, “It’s barely music. It’s art.” That’s a great review if you ask me.
Now, I have just completed a new record that takes me back to the basics of where I came from. Playing that same guitar that my sister Greta built, I have put together six songs that are stories from my life.
These songs are about working, relationships, and living far away from my home country. Five of the songs were written just this year, and the other one I’ve had with me for a while.
With production and creative guidance from Metroschifter bassist Pat McClimans, the songs were recorded in Stockholm and mastered in Nashville. The songs are simple guitar tunes with an additional instrument here and there. Some songs have pedal steel while others have another guitar, voice, or banjo.
Pat told me, “This recording is music. Not even barely.” Seems like I’ve come a long way.
